Senior Solutions Architect
Position Overview: The Senior Solutions Architect is responsible for defining and implementing enterprise-wide architectures, directing large-scale integration efforts, and setting technology standards for network and unified communications. This role provides technical leadership, develops high-level design plans, and stewards projects to evaluate, implement, and deprecate technologies. The architect will partner with business and technology experts to create scalable solutions and guide the strategic direction of IT processes and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Solutions Architecture (50%)
- Partner with business and technology subject-matter experts to translate business requirements into technological solutions.
- Collaborate with other architects to design scalable and adaptable architectural solutions.
- Develop and maintain enterprise-grade architectural plans for systems, products, and projects.
- Create and update policies, standards, reference architectures, and guidelines to ensure consistency across the organization.
- Research and lead the adoption of high-value retail and technology industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Serve as a technical expert across multiple technologies.
2. Strategic Planning (20%)
- Collaborate with business leaders to develop business cases that add value to the organization.
- Estimate future work and assist in the creation of the departmental budget.
- Research and document strategic plans to advance IT processes and technology.
- Contribute to the annual IT Strategic Plan creation and implementation.
3. Product and Project Stewardship (15%)
- Act as the architectural steward for projects, ensuring solutions adhere to architectural guidelines.
- Create or assign reference architectures for engineering and development teams.
- Provide technical expertise and advice as needed, including fulfilling the role of Product Owner when assigned.
- Ensure documented deliverables meet architectural standards.
4. Leadership (10%)
- Mentor technical resources to enhance their skillsets and career growth.
- Identify and facilitate growth opportunities for other team members.
5. Service Management (5%)
- Assist in resolving IT incidents and problems.
- Review and approve changes generated from change management weekly.
- Analyze incident trends and establish problem records to prevent future incidents.
Position Specifications:
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field, or 5 years of professional experience in an architectural capacity.
Desired Education:
- Certifications such as VMware, Cisco Data Center, Cisco Route/Switch, Information Systems Security Professional/Manager (CISSP/CISSM), ITIL Foundation, and Project Management.
Required Experience:
- 10 years of experience with local and wide-area networks, system design, virtualization technologies, storage area networking, and cybersecurity technologies.
- 5 years of experience leading the design and architecture of technology solutions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft, VMware, Palo Alto, Cisco, Citrix, and NetApp solutions.
- Strong understanding of infrastructure services including compute, storage, network, and security.
- Experience with project management, ITSM, ITIL, and troubleshooting complex problems.
Desired Experience:
- Experience with IBM AS/400/IBM Power Systems, multiple database platforms, data protection software, SharePoint, Microsoft Project, AIX Unix, and RHEL.
- Familiarity with Cisco Routing and Switching, Palo Alto, Riverbed, Infoblox, and multiple virtualization or container-based technologies.
