Position: State Tax Manager

Compensation: $100,000 – $115,000 annually, depending on experience

Location: Houston, Texas

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Manage state income/franchise tax returns and estimated payments
• Oversee quarterly and annual state tax provisions
• Perform apportionment calculations for multi-state filings
• Monitor legislative changes impacting the business
• Oversee sales & use tax compliance across states
• Manage tax configuration and product/service taxability in Avalara
• Serve as primary contact for state tax audits
• Coordinate data collection and manage audit resolution strategies
• Partner with internal teams for tax compliance and accuracy
• Implement process efficiencies and best practices

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
• 6+ years of state tax experience
• Hands-on experience with Avalara automation
• Strong understanding of multi-jurisdictional tax compliance
• Advanced Excel skills
• Excellent communication and leadership skills

Nice to Have Skills & Experience:

• CPA, JD, or MST
• Public accounting experience
• Experience with OneSource or Corptax
• Familiarity with ERP systems
