Position: Java Backend Tech Lead

Compensation: $75 – $83 /hour, depending on experience

Location: Fully Remote

Inceed has partnered with a great company to help find a skilled Java Backend Tech Lead to join their team!

This is a high-impact opportunity for a hands-on technical leader to help drive backend modernization on a major enterprise initiative. You’ll guide architecture, influence technical direction, and help shape secure, scalable services as the team moves from legacy systems to cloud-native solutions. If you enjoy solving complex problems, mentoring others, and building with purpose, this role offers a strong mix of leadership, innovation, and delivery ownership.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

• Lead backend architecture and service-level technical decisions
• Modernize monolithic systems into microservices
• Design event-driven solutions with reliable messaging patterns
• Partner across teams to align technical direction
• Serve as a key escalation point for complex issues
• Support production services and incident remediation
• Establish quality standards, testing, and code review practices
• Guide cloud-native development in AWS and Kubernetes
• Mentor engineers through design and architecture discussions
• Help implement AI-assisted engineering workflows

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• 8–10+ years of professional backend software engineering experience
• Strong Java experience, with Java as primary language
• Technical leadership experience as a Tech Lead or senior IC
• Experience with Spring Boot, Spring Security, and Spring MVC
• Hands-on experience building microservices
• Experience with AWS and cloud-native architecture
• Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging patterns
• Experience supporting production systems and incident response
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Experience with CI/CD and quality-focused development practices

Nice to Have Skills & Experience:

• OAuth experience
• Kafka experience
• MuleSoft experience
• Docker and Kubernetes experience
• Domain-driven design experience
• AI-assisted or agentic development experience
• Terraform or CDK experience
• Observability tool experience
• NoSQL database experience
• Experience in regulated environments
